Funding Priorities

A minimum of 25 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race supports the national Komen for the Cure Grant Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific conferences around the world.

Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

The Community Profile Report is a document that evaluates the availability of programs and services in the Southwest Michigan Affiliate area. Click here to download the 2011 Southwest Michigan Community Profile. The areas listed below are chosen as the Affiliate’s priority funding areas for the 2012-2013 grant cycle.

  1. Reduce mortality rates and late stage diagnosis among African American women residing in Berrien County.
  2. Reduce mortality rates for all women with a praticular emphasis on Calhoun County.
  3. Reduce mortality rates and increase screening rates for all women in the eight counties served by the Affiliate.
